She explodes. (First draft.)

It bloats and burns as she keels over the porcelain, pulling at the antenna and latching onto the edge of the bathroom wall. She weeps quietly and looks at her feet as several middle-aged women wearing bold-colored clothes laugh and stand around her in a circle. Sylvia, let’s talk about how you’ve changed. My goodness, I didn’t even recognize you from the photo. She bites down so as not to interrupt, although the throbbing pulse from mucosal damage begs for an outburst at both ends. She glances upwards, her eyes widened and sinking inward, her mouth hanging open. Huhhhhh. I really don’t want to talk about it. Then a woman in lavender hands her the photo. Something swoops in and makes a hollow splashing sound, followed by a thud, her hands holding her white dress taut at the end seam. One woman, who lost 45 pounds in four months using Dr. Sears’ Zone Diet Advantage, turns to smile at Sylvia. How do you feel, Sylvia? The pressure of extreme heat and contorting provoke the metal frames to snap and glass to shatter, going around like a belt, popping like a freight train. Her eyes widen as the photo spills across the screen. I’m disgusted. Ughhh! She collapses into tears and covers her face as the other women rub her back and whisper to her. A smoke explosion and then fuel falling into the pit, heavy white powder and then boom boom boom coming down. Materials shoot out horizontally, roaring, grinding and groaning, knocking her out with the percussion. We’re proud of you, Sylvia. America is proud of you. When she wakes, she runs out the door and down the block a little bit before being overtaken by the cloud and hiding behind a white Suburban.
